Deadline for submitting auditions for the Honor Jazz Festival 2013 is May 1, 2013.
For the first time, all auditions are to be submitted electronically.

It is important to read this information before uploading your auditions for the Honor Jazz Festival.

It appears that the only problems we are having with this first round of auditions are:

1. Firewalls put in place by schools blocking access.
   Solution: So people should upload at home or ask their IT to "white list" our site or let the teachers onto a portion of the network that allows access.
2. Using something other than letters and numbers in a file name creates problems.
   Solution: No parentheses, slashes, other periods than the suffix .mp3, etc.
3. Using special characters for student names (accents, umlauts, etc.) creates problems.
   Solution: Leave out the accent marks and umlauts for now.  On acceptances we can take the correct spellings.
4. People not uploading mp3 files (usually people who just do not understand how to tell the file types) creates problems.
   Solution: Use ONLY .mp3 files.

Problem name: Alto.Sax/überheavy~3.aiff (breaks 2,3, and 4)
Good name: altosaxuberheavy3.mp3

Audition materials are currently under review for MSHO, MSHB, HSO, HSHC,and HSHB to make sure they are up to date before being posted. Please do not give out old sets of audition materials. Up to date materials will be posted as soon as possible. -updated 12 May, 2013

Band Auditions

NEW AUDITION FORMAT!

All auditions will now be uploaded as .mp3 files through the online database. School audition numbers will no longer be necessary. There will be no announcements of any kind on the audition recordings. Each section of the audition must be uploaded as a separate file in .mp3 format.

All auditions must be uploaded no later than Tuesday, October 29th.

A reworking of the audition materials for High School Honor Band is in progress. We anticipate that the completed set of "new" audition materials will be posted no later than August 1. If it is possible to post it sooner we shall of course do so.

What should students practice in the meantime? Here are a few suggestions.

• Each audition will include a major scale with appropriate octaves, articulations and phrasing played with the metronome (This is similar to previous audition material.)
• Each audition will include a melodic minor scale played slowly with a metronome, demonstrating the best tone quality the player can use. (This material will be new to the audition.)
• Each audition will include a chromatic scale with appropriate octaves, articulations and phrasing played with a metronome. (This is similar to material used in previous auditions.
