Eligibility

Girls in grades 6, 7, and 8 are eligible to attend this festival. Since most of the music will be SSA each school is requested to bring 2 sopranos, 2 second sopranos and 2 altos.

Schools usually are given 6 places in this festival. Should there be additional room, they will be invited to bring up to 9 students.

It is recommended that teachers select their own alternates for this festival. Alternates would be expected to practice the music and would then be ready for one of the school's places should one of the participants be unable to participate.

Audition Instructions

Teachers are requested to audition their own students for the AMIS Middle School Choir Festivals. This should be a formal audition procedure designed to show that the singer can hold his own part and can learn fairly quickly. You will find attached the vocalises AMIS suggests you use for your auditions.

It is recommended that teachers select their own alternates for this festival. Alternates would be expected to practice the music and would then be ready for one of the school's places should one of the participants be unable to participate.

Students are responsible for the complete learning of all repertoire and should not be recommended unless they are able to meet the demands of performing challenging literature with other outstanding students. They must be capable of concentrating during long rehearsals each day. Students must be well prepared so as to insure a positive experience. It is the responsibility of each teacher to be sure the students are prepared.

It is important that you are at the school by the end of school on Wednesday. It will be difficult for many families to meet guests other than at this time. Please keep this in mind when making your reservations. If you arrive before Wednesday you will need to organize hotel accommodation for yourself and your students until Wednesday. The housing with families will be Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Please avoid really late arrivals and early departures on Sunday. If you have no other choice, you will probably need to keep your students in a hotel on Saturday night, since we cannot ask host families to be up very early on Sunday morning.

Fees for all Middle School Choral Festivals

You can view all the fees, quoted in both Euros and Sterling, for all AMIS events by clicking on the link on this revised fees page. Schools must choose to be invoiced in either Euros or Sterling. It is possible to pay fees by cheque, transfer or by school credit card. Please contact Georgia Bassett at AMIS headquarters for details of credit card payment. You must be billed in sterling in order to use this facility.

Please note that registration and music fees for AMIS festivals are never refundable.

Adult fees are payable for any participating teacher and official chaperones. These fees cover lunches, snacks, the directors' dinner, a dinner on the concert day, and transport during the actual festival, as well as all administrative fees.

Student registration fees cover lunches, snacks, dinner on the concert day and transport during the actual festival, as well as all administrative fees.

There are no longer separate music fees for festivals. The registration fees now include music. The only additional music charge is for vocal music sent by courier, in which case schools will be billed for these courier fees. Music will be posted to participating schools. Some music will also be posted on box.net for which participating teachers will receive a download invitation, to facilitate rehearsals before music arrives and for commissioned works and special arrangements. Rehearsal tracks are usually also posted on box.net. - posted 12 May, 2013
